On Saturday 10 October 2026, the Circolo della Vela di Roma in Anzio will host “Un mare di storie. Diario di bordo del PartArt4OW Sailing Lab”, an evening that retraces the summer voyage of the PartArt4OW SailingLab through images, an interactive map and short documentaries.
The SailingLab is the itinerant sailing laboratory of PartArt4OW – Participatory Art for Ocean and Water. In summer 2026 it sailed from Anzio to Barcelona, crossing part of the western Mediterranean. The event, part of the Circolo’s “Incontri al Circolo – mare e cultura” series, will be presented by Chiara Certomà (Sapienza University of Rome), Federico Fornaro and Giuseppe Lupinacci (Raw-News Visual Production Agency).
Starting from an interactive map, the audience will follow the SailingLab’s route and some of the stops that marked the journey. The images collected on board show seascapes, navigation, ports, territories and the coastal communities met along the way. Researchers, fishers, artists, activists and sea workers filled the voyage with stories, each offering a distinct view of the Mediterranean and its transformations.
The screened video reports address issues that matter for the future of the sea: water quality, pollution, pressure on resources, environmental change and the increasingly complex relationship between human activities and marine ecosystems. They also show a Mediterranean of knowledge, collaboration and care for the territory, with experiences and initiatives that demonstrate how the sea can be observed, understood and lived more consciously.
The event will also be an opportunity to discuss the pitfalls and potential of doing social research on sailing boats, together with the sailors and navigators attending.
